Consumer credit and credit checks
Depending on how you decide to purchase your charger, you may be credit checked. As you go through to the basket section to purchase your charger, you can choose to either pay upfront for the charger, or to pay by consumer credit.
If you have chosen to pay upfront for your charger, there will be no credit check carried out.
Choosing to pay by consumer credit
If you choose to pay by consumer credit, this means you will still own the charger, however instead of paying it all upfront, the cost is spread out over 36 months. This is not a subscription product; this only determines the method in which you have chosen to pay for the product. Think of this as taking out a loan to pay for the charger, where the loan and repayments are all managed by our lender.
When choosing to pay by consumer credit, you will be asked to enter your personal details (name and address), which we will use to carry out a hard credit check.
This credit check will leave a footprint on your credit report. Don't worry though, this isn't a bad thing. It's just so lenders can see if lots of searches have been made in a short period of time, as this could be a sign of fraud or that you're struggling financially.
We share your information with a credit reference agency, who uses it verify your identity and detect fraud. If fraud is detected you could be refused certain service, finance, or employment. The credit check itself will take around 60 seconds to complete and will let you know immediately if you have been accepted.
Will I be credit checked for Egg Plus?
No. Although you will need to set up a monthly direct debit for Egg Plus, as this is a ‘subscription service’ and not the purchase of a product using consumer credit, there will be no credit check for this.
If I choose to cancel my order after the credit check, will this remain on my record?
Yes. As with any credit check or application for a credit product, this will be stored on your record for a period. If you decide to cancel the order after being accepted, this won’t be removed from your record.
If you don’t complete your order within 21 days of starting your order (not from the date of credit check), your basket will expire, and the credit check will be lost. If you decide to go ahead with placing an order after this period, you will need to restart your order and complete another credit check if choosing to take advantage of our consumer credit offering.
Can I pay a deposit to reduce my monthly payments?
Yes, you can make a deposit. Currently our lender allows a maximum of 25% as a deposit which can be made upon application.
You also have the option of overpayments which, for JN Bank customers, is limited to £8,000 per year.
