Registering your EV charger warranty
Once your EV charger has been installed, it’s beneficial to ensure that all your warranties are correctly registered to enable you to make the most of a manufacturer warranty claim, should you need it.
Although we will set up your products to the back-office during installation and handover, this will not always link the warranty to the specific customer, or fully activate the warranty.
If your products don’t come with a warranty card in the handover pack or product box, the manufacturers website or any labels attached to the equipment can provide you with the information you need to get these registered. If you’re unsure of what to do, speak to our team who will be more than happy to help.
Why do I need to register for the warranty?
As with many products, warranty terms may state that the user must register the warranty for their specific product within a set period from purchase/installation.
Many manufacturers’ warranties provide benefits to the user when registered, including extended warranty periods that may be available for specific models of products.
Depending on the brand of charger purchased, if you do not activate the warranty, any claims should a fault occur will not be honoured through the manufacturer. This could mean that even though your charger came with a 5-year warranty, you have not met the T&Cs of the warranty as it’s not been registered to you.
If there is a fault with the equipment in the future and you attempt to claim on the warranty if the product has not been correctly registered, the manufacturer may not honour the warranty and may not provide the extended warranty period. There could be a cost incurred for any repairs that are required.
If I have Egg cover for my products, how does the manufacturer warranty affect this?
Whilst any Egg cover you have on your products can support in resolving defects with the equipment, Egg take care of all this through the manufacturers warranty claim process, meaning you don’t have to. We also cover many things warranty typically wouldn’t, such as labour, access and call out charges.
If you decide to cancel the Egg cover for your EV charger and rely on the manufacturer warranty, but have failed to register it, you may have to pay for the unit to be inspected, removed, repaired and reinstalled.
How do I register my warranty?
Each manufacturer may allow you to register your charger in a different way, however most can be done in only a couple of minutes through their website. Some manufacturers may not require you to register anything, and the product being active on their systems is sufficient.
If you search for the manufacturer of your product and “register warranty”, you should easily be able to find the correct page. This should provide you with alternative methods of registering the warranty, via phone or postal submission, if this is easier for you.
When registering your product, you will need specific product information, such as the model and serial number of the product, along with the installation date. Depending on the equipment, this information may be printed on a label on the charger itself, or in any user manuals that the installer left with you.
