Manufacturer warraties for EV chargers

What are the warranty periods for my charger, how does this work with Egg Plus and what do I need to do if I have cancelled my Egg Plus cover?

Let’s start by looking at a standard manufacturer warranty:

  • Manufacturer warranty periods vary by manufacturer; however these are typically 3 or 5-years from date of installation.
  • Manufacturer warranties have specific T&Cs that apply to any claim. As with any product, these are set by the manufacturer. We’d recommend reading through the specific terms that relate to your charger prior to making a claim.
  • Manufacturer warranties may have a ‘return to base’ clause, which means they will repair a fault with the product; however, it has to be returned to them for investigation and repair.
  • For any claims where a defect is not identified, or an issue with the installation, supply or other external factor that is not covered by the manufacturers warranty, a fee may apply.
  • Network connectivity issues that are due to poor signal, or intermittent signal, are not covered by the warranty.
  • The manufacturer warranty may only cover replacement parts and not labour to replace the affected component, or site attendance to investigate.
    • Electrician attendance to diagnose, or to remove the faulty charger may incur costs. A typical Electrician visit is around £150 each time.
  • Manufacturer warranties only cover the physical charging unit from manufacturing defects and does not include any other equipment installed to supply power to the unit, or failure of a unit that is due to misuse, natural wear and tear or use outside of that stipulated in the manufacturer’s warranties.

 

Whilst a manufacturer warranty is brilliant and certainly provides peace of mind, each manufacturer will have specific terms that will apply to any claim, and all will have limitations as to what they will cover.

 

How does Egg Plus work?

Egg Plus takes away the complexities and variances that a manufacturer warranty provides, all for a small, fixed, monthly fee. Egg Plus works together with a manufacturer warranty and allows us to take care of everything, ensuring there are no hidden costs and you’re always covered:

  • All parts, labour, callouts, and remote diagnostics are included as standard. There are no hidden costs!
  • Repair or replace promise: if we can’t repair it, we’ll replace it.
    • We won’t leave you without a charger. If it needs to be sent away to the manufacturer for repair, we’ll install a new charger when we take the old one away.
  • Connectivity guarantee: if your charger keeps losing connection, we’ll investigate alternative solutions to resolve this.
  • You don’t have to deal with any manufacturer claim process. We’ll take care of all the paperwork and claims for you.
  • We look after your entire EV electrical installation, including the electrical equipment used to supply and protect your charger. If this fails, we’ll also cover this.
  • The only things that aren’t covered under Egg Plus is: misuse, accidental or intentional damage, or use outside of the manufacturer’s instructions (such as using charging adapters, etc.)
