Can I install a charger if I don't own the property?
We understand that not everyone owns their own home and many people living in rented accommodation or MDUs (Multiple Dwelling Unit) are starting to purchase EVs and need somewhere to be able to charge them.
If you do not own the property or the building that you are wanting to install your charger on, this is possible, however there’s a few things you’ll need before we can do this:
- Written permission from the building owner that an EV charger can be installed, along with any restrictions or requirements for the installation location.
- Your own private parking space with a cable route that does not cross over a public footpath.
- Access to your electricity meter to connect the EV charger. We may also need to be able to access and visually inspect the main incoming electrical supply to the entire building.
Depending on the location of your electricity meter and the proposed location of the charging point, this may not be something we’re able to offer as part of our fixed monthly price offering. This is because cable routes, working at heights, underfloor runs, etc. can become very complex and take several days to install properly in some cases.
If you have any questions, get in touch with our team first, who will be able to confirm exactly what you need and review photos of the property, key locations, and potential cable routes to advise.
